Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey has named Brant Mills as the Director of Communications of the Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church effective October 1, 2023.

Mills is no stranger to the Texas Conference having served from 2006 to 2020 as web content manager and associate director of media. “His knowledge of the Conference and his commitment to The United Methodist Church make him the perfect leader of this important ministry,” said Bishop Harvey.  As chief storyteller and strategic messenger of the mission, Mills will provide leadership in establishing and amplifying the narrative of The United Methodist witness throughout the Texas Conference.

His experience in leading the communication ministry of Christ Church Cathedral, Episcopal Church for the past three years has given Mills a deeper connection to the church of Jesus Christ and the importance of connecting the stories of the people.

“Most of my career has been focused on serving the needs of local churches, lay leaders, and clergy from within the conference office – and I loved all of it,” Brant notes. “During the pandemic I happened across an opportunity to serve a congregation in need more directly while gaining leadership experience and supporting ministry in a different context. Now I’m excited to return home with greater understanding of the needs of local churches and look forward to again partnering with and supporting the ministries of the Texas Annual Conference.”

Mills is a graduate of Lon Morris College where he earned an Associate of Arts degree. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus on radio and television from Sam Houston State University. In 2018 he earned his Master of Arts in corporate and non-profit communication with a second concentration in public and media relations from The Johns Hopkins University.

“We celebrate Brant’s return to the Texas Annual Conference and look forward to his reconnection with our vision, mission, and witness. He will lead us with a strong, steady, and non-anxious presence that will serve the conference well in this season of our life and work.  He is highly skilled and expert in so many areas of communication. We cannot wait for his arrival,” said Harvey.

Brant and his wife Patty spend most of their time chasing their rambunctious kiddos Cameron and Bailey who are heavily involved in scouting activities and exploring parks in and around Houston.
