Flooding due to heavy rain in May 2024 damaged thousands of homes in Southeast Texas.

Responding immediately to needs, as of May 15th, we have distributed:

  • Over 1,000 UMCOR Cleaning (Flood) Buckets

  • 144 UMCOR Hygiene Kits

  • 90 UMCOR Menstrual Kits

  • 120 Adult Care Backpacks

  • 40 Child Care Backpacks

  • Food, diapers, and mops

Donations of these supplies continue to be needed as we prepare for what is predicted to be a very active hurricane season.

Volunteer sign up for mucking and gutting is active. Please sign up online through this form
*Minimum age to volunteer in this capacity is 16 and anyone who is 16 or 17 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Where appropriate, your church and/or district can:

  1. Alert Disaster Readiness Coordinator (DRC) and Response Teams to stand by.
  2. Check your muck, gut and tarp kits, and make sure they are ready to go.
  3. Be alert to announcements about training to be offered over zoom in Mucking, Gutting and Tarping. It is imperative to train volunteers before deploying them.
  4. If your region is affected, check up on your members and on the community, especially vulnerable communities that are under-resourced.

I ask that you would conduct assessments of not only parsonages and church properties, but also contact your county Office of Emergency Management (OEM) for information of where communities are affected, and where possible and safe to do so, do drive-by assessments of surrounding communities to gauge the extent of the damage. This information helps us better understand how we can best be of service to those who need help.

  1. Report damage in your area or seek assistance with damage by contacting

Godfrey Hubert at 281-433-1412 or

  1. Give to Help

There are two ways you may offer support to those in need.

  1. The Disaster Readiness office has put together an Amazon wish list detailing the actual items needed. Please stick to this list. It will be continually updated as more needs are communicated.
  2. Donate funds to help. Please give to the Disaster Fund so we may deliver funds efficiently and directly to where help is needed the most right now.

You may also give by writing a check to The Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Write “Disaster Fund” in the memo line of your check.
Place the check in the offering plate of any United Methodist Church

OR send the check to the conference office at:

C/O Treasurer’s Office
The Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church
5215 Main St.
Houston, TX 77002

Please keep our churches, pastors and all those in affected communities in your prayers, and let us continue to extend a helping hand to those in need.

Sincerely,
Rev. Godfrey Hubert
Texas Annual Conference
