Sustaining Faith Partnerships with Latin America
For years, small grants provided through United Methodist donors have had a big impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. The fund for these grants — Encounter with Christ in Latin America and the Caribbean — is significant itself, born from a desire by various Methodist bodies to develop a partnership in mission in the region and nurtured through the years by dedicated supporters working to add to their ranks.
The Rev. Wilson Boots notes that "the Encounter with Christ Permanent Fund of GBGM on behalf of mission partnership with Methodist Churches in Latin America and the Caribbean has now distributed one million dollars in mission partnership support for mission outreach from interest monies from the Encounter fund with churches of some 26 countries of the Latin America/ Caribbean region."
Boots adds that The Texas Annual Conference has had a significant part in achieving this goal. "Encounter was the global mission priority for the Conference some years ago, resulting in some $70,000 dollars of support for Encounter. This most generous support from the Texas Conference has been important in achieving this goal."
