Rev. Morris Matthis to Serve as Interim Director of Clergy Excellence
For immediate release – February 14, 2019 -- Beginning July 1, 2019, the Rev. Morris Matthis will serve as the interim Director of The Center for Clergy Excellence as well as the Director of New Faith Communities. He will be succeeding the Rev. Gail Ford Smith who will be retiring in May 2019. “Gail has had an effective ministry in this capacity and has been such a blessing to our Conference,” said Bishop Scott Jones.
Bishop Jones said that having Morris serve in this role for one year is an appropriate step for this time in our conference and anticipates a permanent appointment to be made in 2020. This arrangement of duties will be made possible by B. T. Williamson and Elijah Stansell sharing in the responsibilities of the Clergy Excellence office. B. T. Williamson will hold the title of “Benefits Officer” in relation to Wespath and other connectional relationships.
