Mike Bonem serves as next APL facilitator
Bishop Scott J. Jones is pleased to announce that Mr. Mike Bonem accepted the invitation to serve as the next facilitator of the Texas Conference’s Advancing Pastoral Leadership (APL) Program. Bishop Jones convened a search team that evaluated several candidates and the team recommended that Mr. Bonem be hired.
“Mike has an excellent track record of facilitating clergy groups and consulting with local congregations. While he is not a United Methodist, his long-standing work with United Methodist congregations and groups gives him great insight into our denomination.”
Bonem is the author of Leading Congregational Change, Leading from the Second Chair and most recently Thriving from the Second Chair: Ten Practices for Robust Ministry (When You’re Not in Charge).
Bishop Jones paid tribute to the foundational work of Rev. Janice Virtue. “Janice Virtue rendered great service to the Texas Annual Conference as the founding facilitator of APL. She invested and continues to invest in ten cohorts of young leaders by helping them become the best clergy they could be. We are grateful she will continue to work with the cohorts she currently facilitates.”
Bonem’s work will start with an evaluation of the APL curriculum and the selection of the next cohort of APL participants which should begin next spring.
APL is a transformational peer-learning experience of leadership development for young pastors. The five-year program is designed to expand and accelerate the leadership capacity of these young pastors in order to appoint them to strategic congregations early in their careers
