Impactful Youth and Young Adult Events: Save the Dates
From trainings to special connections, retreats and trips, the 2017 schedule is filling up with amazing events for youth/young adults and their mentors and volunteers.
Although the year has just begun, students, youth workers and volunteers can fill their calendars with exciting “Save the Date” notations well into the year ahead. The Texas Annual Conference is “Investing in the Young” via an array of events, trainings, resources and opportunities. Already this month, youth leaders have attended the Perkins School of Youth Ministry and others have attended the Spark Youth Conference. January is also an ideal time for students in grades 10-12 and spiritual mentors to register for this summer’s Texas Youth Academy.
February: Ignite Camp Features “Conversations” Theme
Registration is underway for either of two similar camps offered this February. Both events are open to 7th-12th graders and will feature the Wayne Kerr Band. The February 17 weekend will be hosted at Lakeview and the February 24 event will be held at Forest Glen. Notes Eddie Erwin, conference director of Youth/Young Adult Ministries, “We are excited about the Ignite Conference Youth Retreats. Our desire is that students depart the weekend with something in their faith journey ignited --a deeper connection with their youth group, a passion to engage Scripture, or a new spiritual practice from a workshop. This year we'll be focusing on conversations started by the Minor Prophets, but still ongoing today.”
Our first Youth Student Leadership Retreat will be April 28 at 6 pm until 2 pm on April 29 at Camp Allen in Navasota. This will be an inspired time together with interactive workshops, challenging team activities, opportunities to connect with other student leaders, and more! The retreat is designed for 9, 10, or 11th grade students (individuals or teams) at a cost of $30 per participant. Registration will open Feb. 1 and space will be limited. Participants can 1) develop individual leadership skills applicable to the local church, 2) network extensively with other student leaders and organizations, 3) enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and rooming in the all inclusive price.
Watch for the forthcoming details about youth and young adult events planned as a part of Annual Conference.
Texas Youth Academy

The South Central Jurisdictional Young People’s Ministry will be holding a retreat September 2-4. At this retreat participants will spend time with other conference youth leaders, opportunities for worship and leadership development, and selecting representatives to the Global Young People’s Convocation in South Africa in 2018.
Youth Worker Cruise (Deposit due February 1)
Youth workers attending this cruise will leave the shore September 18-23, heading out of Galveston for a terrific time on the high seas with a couple of stops in Mexico. In addition to the activities and benefits included for all cruise guests, members of the group will have additional activities and benefits available to them. Trip organizers will concentrate on ministries and have spiritual formation and worship opportunities to allow travelers to personally recharge.
