District Surrounds One Church with Love and Support

The Central South District of the Texas Annual Conference dedicated its District Work Day to one special church – the Iglesias Fuente De Vida Mission Congregation. Iglesia faithfully serves the North Houston community out of the former Oakwood United Methodist Church facility for more than six years and already has more than seventy-five in weekly worship.
“Iglesia is an example to all of us that every church that is committed to meeting the needs of their community with love and kindness can and will grow” said Rev. Andy Noel, Superintendent of the Central South District. “This church has the faith, the people and the passion to make a huge difference in their mission field. Any help that we can give to their facility and ministry will reap huge dividends for the Conference and the Kingdom”, Noel said.
One of the main projects is replacing the church’s playground, which has been made possible with a gift from Westminster United Methodist Church. Westminster has assisted Iglesias with many such projects. They helped replace sanctuary roof in 2011 and plan on replacing their fellowship hall roof this year.
“We decided to tithe the giving of our last capital campaign to ministries beyond the walls of Westminster. Iglesias is one of three ministries that have received more than $21,000 from our church” said Rev. Jeff Powers, Pastor of Westminster UMC.
“When we met the people of the Iglesias congregation, we were so impressed with their ministry. They do so much in their community – it is no wonder that they continue to grow. When we saw the need for a new playground, it was easy to raise the money to replace it” Powers said. The Missions Committee and their Methodist Men’s group raised $6,000 for the new playground.
The Central South District Work Day is Saturday, March 5th from 8:30 to 4:00. The church is located at 7029 Appleton Street, Houston, TX 77002. To register online, go to www.heartofhouston.org. For more information, contact the Central South District Office at 713-222-0117.
