Conference Youth: Dates and Details for Longstanding -- and New – Activities
You may know about the upcoming retreats, but have you heard about the new Google hangouts for new ideas in youth ministry?
Just because 2015 is winding down does not mean the youth activities are dwindling. Quite the opposite is true since one of the premier conference-wide goals is to “Invest in the Young.” Dates and plans for the longstanding events such as the Ignite Retreats and Texas Youth Academy are well underway and several new ideas are being put into practice as well, according to Eddie Erwin, Director of Youth & Young Adults for the Texas Conference.
Looking ahead for 2016
- January 3, 4:30-6:30 p.m.: Methodist Meal – For Methodist groups that are attending the Passion Conference January 2-4, 2016 in Houston, we are going to get together for a meal. Once the conference breaks on the afternoon of the 3rd, head down to First UMC Houston for dinner. We'll be in the building from 4:30-6:30, so come & eat! Please RSVP by December 14th at http://goo.gl/forms/ADYoIHFFti .
- February: IGNITE Retreats - We will be hosting two weekends this year. February 19-21 at Lakeview, near Palestine and February 26-28 at Forest Glen, near Huntsville. The retreat leadership is working to make sure that either location provides the same fruitful weekend for you and your students. Our prayer is that Ignite 2016 provides a spiritual ignition point for you and your students; whether that is a more intense relationship with Christ, a purified heart for serving others, new appreciation of a means of grace, or increased connection with others outside your church.
- June 27-July 9: Texas Youth Academy - This two-week summer experience for selected high school sophomores and juniors will take place on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Tx. Students will participate in an intensive encounter with Christian life that will build confidence and allow God to shape them in exciting ways. WANTED: Eager students and skilled staff to apply. Applications and information is available at texasyouthacademy.org
