Back to School Blessings
On Wednesday, August 17, buses brought the teachers and administrative staff of Dean Middle School to Fairbanks UMC. This is the second year the church has helped kicked off the new school year for their adopted school: Dean Middle School.  Rev Deanna M. Young says, “We served over 150 people a hot lunch and prayed for them as they prepared to teach our children. We are always looking for new ways to connect and serve this school.” One teacher commented, "This is just the break we needed today, thank you."  Some of the members will be "bus buddies" next week to help the Bane Elementary children get off the bus at the right stops and they are in the process of collecting money for extra school supplies for the middle school, as well as giving out school backpacks. Additionally, Fairbanks is hosting a "Back to School Blessing" and after worship a "Back to School Bash and Splash Day" to celebrate new beginnings with the community.
Middle Schoolers Give Back
First UMC Pearland is proud of their M&Ms (Mighty and Miraculous Middle Schoolers). Over 30 kids participated in Middle School Mania: Can You Dig It? This week-long day camp just for tweens, allowed them to "dig deep" and talk about the issues they face and how their relationships with each other and Jesus effect their daily lives. There were also snacks, games and fun. As their service project, the M&M's held a car wash to raise money to purchase prizes and gifts for Texas Children's Hospital's in-house camp, Camp 2U. Camp 2U is an outreach program of Camp 4 All that provides amazing camp experiences, indoors and in town, for children in the hospital who can't attend camp. Canoeing, archery, and more. This program allows kids in the hospital to no longer have to miss out on this great summer activity. The car wash raised $140 and with the extra money and gifts the kids brought in, FUMC Pearland's middle schoolers donated over $200 in gifts for Camp 2U campers. "It was so cool that we got to help kids and still have fun," shared Mikki Hoffman. "Hopefully, we can do more like this soon." Diane Kaulen, MS, CCLS, Child Life Department, Clinical Specialist at Texas Children’s Hospital says, "Thank you all for jumping in feet forward to helping us bring Camp For All 2U to Texas Children's Hospital. You guys are amazing and camp is going to be perfect from all your support." Information about FUMC Pearland: at
