Church and Society Seeks Input on Social Principles 2020

Date Posted: 8/7/2018

The General Board of Church and Society has been tasked by the General Conference to revise the Social Principles. The Social Principles “express The United Methodist Church’s official positions on societal issues, casting a vision for a just and equitable world” (Introduction to the Social Principles).

The Social Principles revision has been underway for two quadrennia. Born out of a request from General Conference, the General Board of Church and Society has undertaken the global project, and looks forward to presenting a final draft to General Conference 2020 for consideration.

Now that a draft is completed, they want input on the draft of the revised Social Principles from as many United Methodists as they can get before the August 31 deadline. Their writing teams will use your feedback to make certain the draft revision reflects the diverse perspectives of our global connection. This draft includes topics like peace with justice, environmental justice, economic justice, health justice, civil and human rights, and justice for women and children, among many others.
