Choral Evensong Planned for Oct. 9 at St. Paul’s UMC in Houston

Date Posted: 9/29/2016

The choir at St. Paul’s UMC, Houston will offer a service of Choral Evensong, Sunday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m.
The choir will sing a setting of the "Preces and Responses" by Richard Shephard and "Psalm 48" by John Goss of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. The uplifting canticles in D Major by George Dyson are at the core of the repertoire and dear to choirs everywhere. Another featured composer, William Walton, enjoyed much success with his music for concerts, stage, and film, as well as making several notable contributions to the choral literature. St. Paul’s Choir will present Walton’s "Jubilate Deo,” a thrilling work for six solo voices, double choir, and organ.
In the Anglican tradition, the Evensong service is almost entirely sung and lasts approximately 50 minutes. St. Paul’s Choir’s monthly Evensong services are at the heart of “traditional worship for a contemporary people,” much loved by our community and one of St. Paul's most significant cultural offerings to the city.
This event is free and open to the public.
