BMCR Offering a SANKOFA Celebration
You are invited to join in a “Celebration” on Sunday, October 13, at Mt. Vernon UMC, 1501 Jensen Dr.
Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR) will explore the history of African Americans in the Methodist church, as a means of inspiring the church for the future. This is the meaning of the African word – SANKOFA to reach back as you move forward.
Both clergy and laity will share their stories of life in the church prior to integration and throughout the 1900s. Additionally, a timeline depicting the service of Blacks in Methodism from 1800 to the present will be displayed and a video will be made available for each congregation. This celebration is designed to propel Black churches and smaller churches forward for fruitful future ministries.
