Advent Season Coat Drive

Date Posted: 12/9/2013

Rev. Mark Pickett, Restorative Justice Committee chairman and pastor of  First UMC, Huntsville invites congregations across the conference to set aside several of the next few Sundays to collect coats for the men and women who will be released from TDCJ prison during the cold winter months.

Dry cleaners may also have unclaimed coats that can be repurposed for the needy. Between Monday and Friday of each week some 50-150 men are released from the Walls unit in downtown Huntsville to return home. “These men and women are part of the least, the last and the lost, and whatever we are doing for them; we are doing for Christ (Matt 25:40),” he notes. “These individuals may also be a family member to someone in your church. Get a box, make an announcement and collect the coats, it’s that easy. We will take care of picking them up.”
