Gift Cards and Cash Donations Touch the Homeless from Houston to Texarkana

Date Posted: 9/26/2013

Red Lick First UMC is supporting a mission that meets under a bridge in Texarkana called Church Under the Bridge.  Most of the people that attend are homeless, and live in campsites in the wooded areas near the bridge.  The North District shared Cards of Compassion gift cards contributed at this summer’s Annual Conference with the mission pastor. The youth at Red Lick First UMC will hand others out when they go and help feed the homeless later this year. The mission pastor, a volunteer, is now able to take his homeless friends out to eat, invite them into their home, buy them necessities, and clothes.

Cash donations of $500 from the conference collections are being invested in others who do not have an address -- in the Houston area through a joint ministry called CROSSROADS, led by Servants of Christ UMC, Glenbrook UMC and others. CROSSROADS has been helping preserve the dignity and self-worth of homeless individuals since 2001 and will use these donations to promote health and educational opportunities in addition to providing nourishment.

Your gifts are reaching many you will never see, even on the streets.
