Criminal Justice Policy Information Session

Texas Impact will be hosting a Criminal Justice Policy information session Monday August 12 from 5:30-7:30 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntsville, located at 700 Highway 30 E. Texas Impact is a statewide interfaith advocacy organization representing  a wide range of religious judicatory bodies at the state level, including the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church USA, Disciples of Christ, United Church of Christ, Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church, and more with board representation from the Texas Catholic Conference and Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission. Cindy Eigler, a Criminal Justice Policy Specialist for Texas Impact's sister organization, the Texas Interfaith Center for Public Policy will be leading a presentation on the current status of Criminal Justice issues in Texas with a brief training on how people of faith can get involved. Prior to her current role, Cindy has worked for the Correctional Association of New York and a neighborhood development program in the United Kingdom. She has a Master's Degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago. The presentation will provide a brief overview of adult and juvenile criminal justice systems as they currently stand, with a specific focus on ways the faith community can support reform and advocate on behalf of individuals adversely impacted by the system. Topics will include conditions of confinement, racial disparity, juvenile justice, the criminalization of mental illness and capital punishment.
