Anything for a Badge

Date Posted: 5/23/2013

Where there are scouts, there are merit badges to be earned. And life lessons to be learned! What better place to learn about God & Me (2nd-3rd grade), God & Church (6th -8th), and God & Family (4th-5th) – than at church?

For several years, Parkway UMC has recognized this as a distinct need in the community, and has hosted P.R.A.Y. classes for any children or youth in the community wanting to earn their Protestant Religious Emblem.

Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, American Heritage Girls and Campfire USA all accept completion of these classes to earn their religious emblem awards.  According to Children’s Ministry Leader Valerie Throgmorton, “We do this every summer and are always pleased with how well it is received. We promote the availability through our Scouting Ministry.” Parkway UMC charters Pack 616. See More Information

Additionally, youth in this area can stay in the word through GROW! Bible studies on Tuesday evenings, with groups available for ages between 4 and 5th grade. Meanwhile, middle schoolers and high school students have summer mission opportunities to put their “faith in action.”
