Countdown to Conference
“This year, all United Methodists can be in-the-know during Annual Conference,” says Communication Director Paula Arnold, “because we will be providing of live streaming video of each of the main sessions.” Streaming information will be available at: www.txcumc.org/taclivestream
· Remember this year’s 1000-card challenge! Send your delegate with gift cards for ministries working with victims of human trafficking and homelessness.
· Here’s the final agenda and timeline for the 2013 sessions
· UMW “Brown Bag Special Offering:” At next week’s conference, United Methodist Women will bring back the “Brown Bag Special” instead of having the “usual catered luncheon” at Annual Conference. Anyone can contribute and the beneficiary will be Home for Hope: one of the ministries the TAC Center for Missional Excellence partners with to address the justice issue of human trafficking and to care for its victims, especially those who are children. These children need medical and emotional support and healing when they are rescued, and the Texas Conference is blessed to be working with this ministry that provides a home and these services for child victims. Melba Spann, Communications Coordinator for UMW says that human trafficking has been a concern of the Texas Conference United Methodist Women as well as the National Board of Directors of United Methodist Women for a long time. Says Melba, “This year instead of purchasing a ticket to the United Methodist Women’s Luncheon during Annual Conference, consider making a donation to the “Brown Bag Special” for the Home for Hope. It will be an expression of our work in human trafficking in keeping with the ‘egg money’ stories of the founding women who sacrificed and gave funds to support missions.” Mark any contribution “to Brown Bag Special and send to Conference treasurer Paulette Moore-all, 9915 Willow Crossing Drive, Houston Texas 77064-5733.
