Online Consortium Now Lists More than 50 Classes
Seven institutions are listing more than 50 continuing education classes on the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Online Consortium Web page.
The listing of continuing education classes was launched in 2010 with only classes from United Methodist seminaries, but has been expanded this year to classes from University Senate-approved seminaries and members of IAMSCU, the International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities.
“Providing online higher education has grown very fast for the last few years, however, the online continuing education consortium is a unique program in a sense that provides high quality theological continuing education through a central, one stop Web site,” said the Rev. HiRho Park, GBHEM’s director of Clergy Lifelong Learning.
“The goal of the online consortium is to enhance and broaden global access to theological educational experience for those who want to deepen their theological knowledge without leaving home. Especially, self-directed courses are available for anybody who wants to have one-on-one study with a faculty about a subject with flexible schedule,” Park added.
She believes the consortium has unlimited possibility for of involving more Methodist-related schools in continuing education and assisting them in expanding revenue by attracting students around the world.
Those interested in taking the classes can view the online catalogue and Web links to each theological school that is offering the classes through www.gbhem.org/clergylifelonglearning. Tuition and fees are set by the seminary hosting the class and will be paid directly to that seminary.
The United Methodist schools of theology that have classes listed are: Drew University, The Theological School; Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary; United Theological Seminary, and Wesley Theological Seminary. The University Senate-approved seminaries offering classes are: Pacific School of Religion and Luther Seminary. The Southern Theological Education and Training Scheme, an IAMSCU member, is also offering classes.
