The 2013 Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will be held this May 26 - 29 at the Hilton Americas Hotel (1600 Lamar St) in downtown Houston with a total expected attendance of 3,000 United Methodist members and affiliates. According to Worship Leader DeAndre Johnson (Westbury UMC) the worship theme for 2013 is Embracing the Dream, “that is, God's dream for the church and the world through intentional investment in the young dreamers among us. We will explore this theme in worship by focusing on certain biblical characters like Mary, Esther, Joseph and Samuel - both how God called them in their youth and how God used others around them to nurture that call.” The worship schedule is as follows:

Sunday, May 26 | Opening Celebration w/ Episcopal Address @ 6:30pm, Bishop Janice R. Huie preaching

Monday, May 27 | Service of Remembrance w/ Holy Communion @ 7pm, Dr. Jim Bankston (St. Paul's UMC, Houston) preaching

Tuesday, May 28 | Celebration of Ministry Honoring Retiree @ 11am

Tuesday, May 28 | Service of Commissioning & Ordination @ 7pm at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Bishop Janice R. Huie preaching

Wednesday, May 29 | Service of Sending Forth @ 10:15am, Dr. Carolyn McCall (Salem UMC, Orange) preaching

The music during the worship services will include choirs and instrumentalists from Covenant Glen UMC (Missouri City), Hearts Afire Worship Band (SFA Wesley Foundation), First UMC  (Sugar Land), Kingwood UMC (Kingwood) & St. Paul's UMC (Houston). The opening celebration will feature a combined mass choir that will include many of the students who are participating in the Collide youth event that overlaps the beginning of conference.

Additionally, during the plenary sessions on Monday and Tuesday, Dr. Kenda Creasy Dean, Professor of Youth, Church and Culture at Princeton Theological Seminary, will lead sessions on 21st century youth culture and church relevancy. All conference events are free and open to the public.
