South District Meeting Update

Date Posted: 10/9/2014

The churches of the South District continue to step up their efforts in ministering to public schools. They took advantage of Bishop Huie’s visit on September 28th and combined it with a commissioning service.  South District Superintendent Kip Gilts says, “It was possibly a District Meeting conference-first when Bishop Huie sent forth approximately 50 volunteers involved in mentoring programs such as Kids’ Hope, Kids’ Beach Club, HOST and other programs designed to encourage students through personal relationships with members of a local church. She shared that one Houston area school reported that mentoring has facilitated an increase in test scores of 30% in math 13% in reading – and that’s just one campus! Our volunteers are making a difference in the lives of the students, teachers and staffs of our schools.”
He adds, “Each person being commissioned received a brand new box of crayons - sharp, colorful, and unbroken. May God bless these ministers in their new school year.”
