Spreading the Gospel from the Inside Out
The word evangelism, according to Webster’s dictionary is a noun that means zealous preaching and dissemination of the gospel (the good news), as through missionary work.
That meaning certainly fits the upcoming evangelism conference hosted by John Wesley UMC in
Associate pastor, Rev. Matthew Smith says, “We are hosting this event to encourage churches to embody radical hospitality and to be devoted to being outward directed in all areas of ministry. The Great Commission, “to make disciples of Jesus Christ,” is best fulfilled when Christians look beyond the walls of the church building and see with compassion a world in need of good news.” He continued, “This idea of seeing outward then compels the Christian to make a difference in their community, but sometimes it’s more difficult than anticipated. There are many questions and risks associated when churches desire to encounter a diverse and ever changing culture with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We envision as a result of this conference communities being changed, lives transformed, and vibrant growing congregations because the church was willing to open its doors and step out into the community.” The registration deadline is September 20 and child care will be offered for children 5 years and younger. For more information about the conference or to register, visit the church’s web site, www.jwumc.org/resources/registration or email Rev. Smith at
