Russell Memorial UMC Honored

Date Posted: 3/28/2013

Congrats to Russell Memorial UMC for recently being recognized by the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce for being “Citizen of the Year.” Rev. Billy Watson was excited to learn the church had been nominated several times, indicating Russell Memorial is successfully building a track record as an outwardly-focused church.

“Because we are blessed, we want to bless others,” he says, “and that community mindedness is exploding within our congregation as part of our DNA that we have embraced over time. In recent months, Russell Memorial has expanded our Neighbor-to-Neighbor program to provide lunch and fellowship to the community once a month and meals to 70 shut ins, and we have become very active in the local school district.

Our church coordinates activities and services for the Back-to-School fair each year, we contribute food to a backpack grocery program for hungry students, and we are the hub for a growing AngelTree gift giving program during the holidays. It has been rewarding to be noticed by the Chamber with this special honor!”
