FUMC Huntsville Offers Restorative Justice Ministry Seminar

Date Posted: 4/13/2011

The Restorative Justice Ministry team at FUMC, Huntsville will present a four hour seminar on faith-based dorms in TDCJ on Saturday April 16.

While the majority of prison ministry focuses on the inmates inside prison, there has been a growing awareness in recent years of the needs these men and women face once released.

Learn about the history, purpose, and operation of these dorms and how you can get involved in this exciting risk-taking mission and ministry in the Texas Annual Conference.

Speakers include Chaplain Richard Lopez, Director of Chaplaincy Support; Chaplain Calvin Page, from the Wynne Unit; and Rev. Marvin Hood, Pastor of Newgate, UMC. Rev. Hood will speak about the issues of post-release including after-care and how the church can nurture these people back into the community.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and there is a $10 fee that covers lunch and handouts. For more information call (936) 295-5441 or email mpickett@huntsvillefumc.org.
