Date Posted: 3/26/2014

The restorative justice ministry at The Woodlands, Christ Church UMC was nominated and selected to be the sole recipient of the 2014 prestigious State of Texas Governor’s Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award.
The Prison Ministry serves those who are incarcerated in the Hightower Prison Unit in Dayton, Texas. Christ Church sponsors a faith-based dorm at Hightower, leading Disciple Bible studies and quarterly Praise and Worship services. We also sponsor a Mentorship Program, two four-day Kairos weekends held in April and October, Saturday Kairos Prayer and Share Fellowship, Kairos cookies and Christmas Blessing Bag distribution each December.
The number of inmates served is 400 per month, since 2007. 150 inmates per semester enroll in the Christ Church Disciple Bible Study.  The Church sponsors and operates one of only 2 faith based dorms in a TDCJ Unit in Texas. There are 30 men and women engaged as Disciple servants, as representatives of Christ Church East (as it is called at the Hightower Unit) and of our Texas Annual Conference.
