TAC Mission Project 2019
Donate Belts And Shoelaces For Catholic Charities Humanitarian Respite Center
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Every year the Missions Committee of the Texas Annual Conference selects a Missions Project for Annual Conference. This year they have chosen to collect NEW belts and shoelaces of all sizes. These items will be delivered to Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, TX. The Texas Annual Conference and the Rio Texas Conference have a long history of partnering with Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley to meet the humanitarian needs of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers who have been cleared by federal authorities to enter the United States. Upon release from detention, these newly arrived sisters and brothers in Christ are taken to the Humanitarian Respite Center where they are given a hot meal, shower, change of clothes, hygiene items, and basic necessities for the remainder of their journey. Unfortunately, two items that are desperately needed for men, women, and children, are belts and shoelaces. These items are confiscated by federal authorities when the immigrants are placed in detention, and they are not returned to them upon their release. We hope you will consider meeting this simple but vital need as we work to be in ministry with our humanitarian aid partners and our newly arrived sisters and brothers in Christ.
