Deaf Friendly Worship:
Huntsville UMC Hosts SCJ Congress

Huntsville FUMC is preparing to host the South Central Jurisdiction United Methodist Congress of the Deaf. Members of the multi-state region will head to Huntsville in July to learn about ministry for the deaf and hard of hearing, which has been a high priority for the church for the past nine years.

Houston Third Ward Churches Bring Dental Clinic to Emancipation Park

Residents of Houston's Third Ward lined up for the blessing of free dental care in May; the Texas Mission of Mercy dental clinic, brought to Emancipation Park by four area United Methodist Churches, served about 750 people who lacked the resources to see a dentist on their own.

Kaleidoscope and Bookworm Bus
Established for Children

When Bishop Scott Jones spoke about the "We Love All God's Children" initiative the Annual Conference this year, he recognized programs already in motion, building literacy, health and discipleship in the youngest and most in need. Pollard UMC Church, for example, has offered its preschool Kids’ Kaleidoscope for the past 40 years. In addition, new projects are in the works, like Pattison UMC’s BookWorm Bus, which will hit the road this summer.

UMC Member Built 60 Beds for Needy Children,
100 More on Wait List

Jack Seeley was looking for a new project, when he discovered Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit that builds and delivers beds to children who otherwise would not have a place to sleep. Members of his church, First UMC in Beaumont, volunteered to help, and Seeley remodeled a church building to serve as their shop. Now the effort is underway, and there is already a waiting list for 100 beds.

Lake Houston UMC - Rising from the Water

Hurricane Harvey’s floodwaters couldn’t dampen the spirits of worshipers at Lake Houston UMC when their sanctuary was destroyed, they brought lawn chairs and blankets and praised God in the parking lot for three Sundays.

Peace with Justice Sunday

Peace with Justice Sunday (June 16, 2019) is a United Methodist Special Sunday. It is based on the ideas that the way to stand for justice is to simultaneously create pathways for peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding. It is a day to take action by funding peace with justice programs in our communities.
