Radio church for senior living facility

St. John’s UMC Texas City and assisted living facility Elmcroft of the Mainland are neighbors, so close that the congregation could wave to residents. “They’re right next door,” Senior Pastor, the Rev. Stephanie Hughes said. Still, the two had never worshipped together. That is, until COVID-19 shook everything up. “It changed the game,” Hughes said.

Church hosts speech therapy group for stroke patients

On the first and third Thursday of each month, Strawbridge UMC in Kingwood becomes a refuge for individuals with aphasia, a condition that limits speech and language after a stroke or brain damage. The church has hosted the group for the past three years, providing therapy and a social outlet at no charge.

Hispanic Leadership Academy is ultimate training ground

New church name same unified mission

The name may be new, but the faces are the same at The Gathering Church in Texas City. Seated in the pews are members of Grace UMC and First UMC Texas City. The congregations merged earlier this year. Now, they are unified in mission and moving forward for the transformation of the world for Jesus Christ.

District laity recognized with awards

The East District is recognizing two outstanding lay leaders for their central role in ministry, with the Silver and Gold Award. The honor was created this year by Superintendent Rev. Dr. Richard P. White, along with the District Leadership Team. One male and one female laity member will be recognized annually in the future.

Celebrating World Communion Sunday

On Oct. 3, United Methodists will join Christians around the globe to recognize oneness in Christ and celebrate World Communion Sunday. In The United Methodist Church, donations to the World Communion Special Sunday support scholarships to equip U.S. students of color and international students to transform the church and their communities as both laity and clergy.

Looking for a way to worship without leaving the house?

A number of churches in the Texas Annual Conference are posting sermons online.

You don’t have to miss a service if you’re out of town or if you prefer to stay at home. Viewers can also enjoy multiple preaching styles and even virtually “attend” different churches. There’s a lot going on Sundays in the TAC that you won’t want to miss.

Sermons are often available to livestream on Sunday and several congregations also record services for on-demand viewing. Check them out at: https://www.txcumc.org/sermons.

We would like to include your church in this list. Please let us know if you are posting a resource online by sending a link to: communications@txcumc.org.
