Join us this Advent season and let's explore our sacred journeys together ... but on our own ... side-by-side ... in silent solitude! We are so excited for this new offering and hope you decide to join us!
Our unique approach is one which invites you to find your own "rhythm with the rhythm." As one of our introduction to silence retreats we will gently gather throughout the retreat for worship as we pray "the hours" with spoken prayer, music, spiritual practices, meditation, gentle guidance, and more. Your staff will keep the rhythm, and you are invited to engage in worship as needed to refresh your soul but you are also free to find your refreshment in whatever way works for you. We find this approach is welcoming to both beginners in silence and those who are more experienced.
Perhaps you will need more guidance in moving through our time together. Spiritual direction will be available throughoiut the retreat by our leaders, Becky Oates and Cindy Serio, seasoned spiritual directors for almost 20 years
Our plan is for arrival between 2 pm and 4 pm central time to check in and to gather at 4:30 pm. We plan for a departure around 2 pm central time on Saturday. These times are tentative at this point and will be confirmed closer the the retreat. The retreat center requires a signed release form when you check-in, take this link to view a sample: Release Form. In addition, The Gathered Community will send you a Pre-Retreat Information Packet a couple of weeks before the retreat which will include any guidelines, releases and contingency plans following local and CDC guidelines in place at the time regarding COVID.
The Journey retreat center is a 7 acre oasis in the midst of the busy Houston metro area which invites us to learn how to cultivate inner stillness while the world around us still unfolds and thrives in its chaos, beyond the walls of our seclusion.
Each of the rooms is designed for several people but you will be on your own in a private room with a private bath. We suggest you bring a comfortable folding chair for your room if you would like to relax and read or write.
In addition to the Chapel and Dining area, there is an activity center with 2 large gathering areas where various creative and contemplative processing tools will be available for our use both communally and individually. The labyrinth, an array of creative supplies, gentle reading material and other processing tools will be available to guide us, individually and communally, during our time together.
Meals are catered in by the retreat center from several local businesses and served by their staff. Therefore, we are not able to guarantee any adjustments for food issues at this time. However, please contact us via email with any food allergies or sensitivities and we will check with the retreat center on a case by case basis.
