TITLE:                             Local Church Disaffiliation Specialist
CENTER:                        Center for Connectional Resources (CCR)
REPORTS TO:                Director
HOURS/DAYS:               Part-time; temporary; 20-29 hours/week
                                       Flexible hours, four-day work week (Monday through Thursday)
                                       Weekend and evening work occasionally required
                                       Position expected to continue through June 30, 2023
WORK FROM HOME:    50% or less, and only if approved by Director
CLASSIFICATION:         Non-exempt
Position Summary
The Local Church Disaffiliation Specialist is needed to work in a positive and respectful office environment in Houston’s Museum District with approximately 25 colleagues and coworkers.  The office serves as the Office of the Bishop of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, the administrative and spiritual leader for all United Methodist churches and clergy in Southeast Texas.
The Local Church Disaffiliation Specialist will work under the direction of the Director of the Center for Connectional Resources, who is the Treasurer and Benefits Officer for the Texas Annual Conference.  The Local Church Disaffiliation Specialist will work in positive and respectful relationship with the Director, other staff members and volunteer leaders, District Superintendents, and local church pastors and lay leaders to assist with the process of local church disaffiliation.   
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining positive and respectful relationships with the Director, staff and volunteer leaders, District Superintendents and administrators, and local church pastors and leaders
  • Answering questions and acting as a resource for local churches considering disaffiliation
  • Creating and updating spreadsheets and files for disaffiliating churches
  • Requesting and communicating estimated updated disaffiliation costs for disaffiliating churches
  • Creating and expediting completion of disaffiliation agreements and deeds
  • Requesting and acknowledging receipt of disaffiliation funds
  • Preparing local churches for approval at Board of Trustees and annual conference sessions
  • Assisting Director and CCR staff with letters, emails, mailings, filing, scanning, and other administrative tasks, as needed
  • Reviewing local church disaffiliation webpage weekly and alerting Director and/or Center staff when changes are needed
  • High School diploma or GED required.  College education and/or additional training preferred.
  • Five years administrative office experience preferred.  Non-profit or church office experience preferred.  United Methodist Church experience preferred.
  • Good moral character required.  Courteous respectful team player required.  Practicing United Methodist or Christian preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, scanners, printers, copiers, and other office equipment required.  Proficiency in Word, Outlook, and Excel required.  Proficiency with Drop Box preferred. 
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills required.  Good decision making and professional writing skills preferred.
