Full-Time Director/Minister of Music - Friendswood UMC
Friendswood Methodist Church is a large Christ-centered and biblically grounded church filled with talented, passionate and caring people with a heart for ministry and mission. Located in the suburban SE Houston bay area, Friendswood is family-oriented church and community with a strong tradition of exceptional music ministry.
SCOPE OF MINISTRY POSITION: The Director of Music shall be responsible for the planning, coordinating, and overseeing of the Music Ministry, with a goal of creating an excellent, Christ-centered, traditional worship experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Music Education, or equivalent degree in Worship and Fine Arts. A Master’s Degree in Music, Music Education and/or Worship is a plus. Applicants must demonstrate a proficient ability in choral and orchestral conducting. Applicants should also be proficient as a solo vocalist.
EXPERIENCE: Experience as traditional church music director is required which includes directing traditional church choirs, orchestra and hand bells. Applicants should also have experience in managing a church music staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Overseeing fourteen choirs and music groups as well as managing a music staff which consists of the associate director of music, church organist, orchestra director, children’s music ministry coordinator, youth choir director and two administrative music associates. Volunteer leadership includes a children’s choir director, one team of children’s choir co-directors, two teams of hand bells co-directors, a chime choir director and an adult hand bell director.
