Director of Communications - The Harvest UMC


The Director of Communications will lead in setting the direction as well as the strategic implementation of all internal and external communications to consistently articulate, empower, and fulfill The Harvest’s mission.

Essential Functions

  • Manage workflow of and priorities for strategic communications across all necessary media (website pages, social media, html emails, videos, print materials, church app, digital signage, church-wide texting, etc.)
  • Design and publish all graphic design projects, video productions, and print materials (brochures, bulletins, posters, banners, etc.)
  • Market and promote programs, teaching series, big events and other campaigns through website, social media platforms, print materials, and paid print or social media ads
  • Ensure consistency of brand and voice in messaging and visuals throughout the church, including design and content in each ministry area
  • Develop The Harvest’s website through current content, modern design, effective SEO, and integration of new technology
  • Build followings on social media outlets (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and track and manage engagement
  • Assist with communication needs for worship services through graphics and visual resources for sermon series
  • Develop weekly church news video segments for use in worship and online in collaboration with the Director of Worship Arts
  • Manage the communications budget

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain archive of past copy, graphic design projects, photography, and video for use in future projects
  • Partner with paid contractors or unpaid volunteer artists to develop graphic designs or gather photo and video material
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in communications, media or related field preferred, or a minimum of 3-5 years experience
  • Demonstrable competency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and InDesign
  • Experience maintaining websites through a content management system
  • 30 hrs/wk Minimum Salary 28k Salary commensurate with experience
