Director of Children's Ministry - West University UMC


General planning and execution daily programming of the ministry. Provide spiritual care for children and their families. Provide programs and opportunities for children to grow in their relationship with Christ. Continue to expand the kingdom of God by reaching out to the community and promoting the offerings we have at West U Methodist. 
Essential Functions, Responsibilities, and Activities:  1. Plan, coordinate, and execute aspects of the children's ministry including but not limited to: 

  • Children's Message on Sunday mornings Sunday School for Kindergarten - 5th-grade Vacation Bible School 
  • Community Outreach Events twice a year including, but not limited to, West U Little League Carnival, West U Fun Run, Houston Marathon, etc. 
  • Monthly Children's Mission Activities Weekly Elementary Bible Studies 
  • West U Methodist School Chapel 
  • Special Events including, but not limited to, Eggstravaganza, Christmas Alive Backyard Party, Monthly Friday Fun Nights, Back to School Blessings, Pre-K, and 3rd Grade Bible Presentation, Blessing of the Pets, Backyard Block Party, etc. 
  • After school CrossOver program (leading the Devotional/Lesson) 
2. Tasks needed to achieve the above responsibilities includes but not limited to the following: 
  • Write and/or select appropriate curriculum Demonstrate classroom management Develop & support volunteer's opportunity within the ministry Purchase supplies Communicate with families on a consistent basis Recruit, train, and oversee the acolytes in Sunday services Attend staff meetings Attend worship planning meetings Lead quarterly Children's Council meetings Attend church-wide events Attend Sunday services 
  • Ensure Church engagement platform (Church Community Builder) is up to date with any changes for participating children 
3. Assisting the Recreation Manager with various after-school programs to meet and greet children:
  • provide prayer as needed
  • Kids on the Court Summer Camp 
4. Other duties as assigned  Requirements: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood/ Elementary Ed./ Christian Education preferred.  Experience: Minimum of three years experience in Children's ministry role; Wesleyan preferred.
