Charis Spiritual Director Program

The Charis Spiritual Director Training Program is an initiative sponsored by the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Our three-year program combines the ancient Christian traditions of spiritual guidance with the Wesleyan spirituality that informs and inspires the United Methodist faith.  Our ecumenical program has trained over 60 Spiritual Directors in the practice of spiritual direction over the past 12 years.  Our fifth class will begin with a Lakeview retreat at the end of August 2017.

Spiritual direction is the process of accompanying people on their spiritual journeys.  A spiritual director helps persons to tell their sacred stories every day.  Spiritual direction invites a deeper relationship with the Holy and offers a safe place to explore prayer practices, meditation, spiritual experiences, and our growing desire for meaning and significance.

Spiritual direction is a calling much like ordained ministry is a calling. Both laypersons and clergy find themselves drawn toward this area of service.
