BMCR - Black Methodists for Church Renewal
Black Methodists for Church Renewal is an advocacy organization
whose focus is to:
• Promote social justice and equality for all participants in the
• Expose latent and overt forms of racism as well as serve as a conscience on boards, agencies and institutions at all levels of the of the United Methodist Church
Review of 2006-07 Activities
During 2006-07, Black Methodists for Church Renewal hosted Clergy and Laity Straight Talk equipping events. District Superintendents led the two clergy equipping events, and lay leaders led the event serving laity.
The Annual Conference Luncheon brought together more than 100 clergy and laity.
Emphasis was placed on understanding the communication network within the Texas Conference and effective communication in our surrounding communities.
Additionally, BMCR hosted 400 attendees at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast at the
This event keeps before the church issues facing the African American community.
It is anticipated that in 2007-08 BMCR will continue its leadership events for clergy and laity, and reinstate ministry opportunities for youth and children.
