Information for medical people wanting to go to Haiti.
They are only requesting medical volunteers now as that is a great need.
Medical volunteers are responding through National Disaster Medical Assistance - this may be an option for some health care volunteers. Note web sites: www.hhs.gov and www.medicalreservecorps.gov.
If you have anyone interested in volunteering they must go to those sites to apply. Credentials will be checked and everything will be approved through the National Disaster Medical Assistance group.
Other potential volunteers who are considering gong to Haiti, read this to register and this.
Disaster do-gooders can actually hinder help. More than a week after an earthquake devastated Haiti, disaster organizers say they're seeing the first signs of a problem that can hamper even the most ambitious recovery efforts. Read: Good intentions gone wrong.
What you can do:
Donate to: Advance #418325
Please follow the directions exactly. Include all items; do not add items that are not on the lists. Extra gifts, though given with the best of intentions, render a kit unusable and must be removed. Note: All items must be new.
Deliver kits to TAC Disaster Response Consultant Rev. Clay Whitaker at Old River Terrace UMC, 161 I-10 East, Channelview, TX, 77530
or you can take them to Rev. Bill Newcomb at Cokesbury UMC, 10030 Scarsdale Blvd. Houston TX, 77089.
