Coming in 2017: Valuable Trainings in All Districts

Date Posted: 12/8/2016

The upcoming district training opportunities are ideal for members who want to be lifelong learners and add great vitality to their local congregations.

Vital congregations are full of eager members who seek to learn and use new talents to expand the kingdom. To that end, the TAC season of trainings is ramping up with a wide variety of topics and sessions available in the next few months. For example, Central South District is pulling out all the stops with an afternoon of 24 sessions under the theme of “Finding the Kingdom Among the Poor” on January 29 at First UMC Westchase campus from 2-6pm.  ”I am so pleased to have Larry James as our keynote speaker,” says Superintendent Andy Noel. Rev. James brings his experiences from his Dallas based ministry called CitySquare, a model ministry with the poor.” The afternoon session will kick off with music from The Vine worship band. Adds Andy, “This event is a great way to unite our district around this purpose and get off to a fresh start in the new year.”

In the Southwest District, trainings on January 28 are being offered on topics including General Conference Highlights and Hopes, Effective Partnership and Leadership Development along with SPRC Basics, Finance and Engaging Young Adults. Opening worship begins at 9 a.m. at Christ UMC in Sugar Land. In addition, District Lay Leader Richard Hyde will help local church lay leaders share ideas, experiences and questions. A panel of presenters will also enlighten attendees at the “Removing the Blinders” session on new ways to look at missions in the community. “Another one of the highlights of our training will be presenter Rev. Jacqui King providing insight on goal setting, measuring progress, implementation and evaluating new processes,” adds Claire Kincannon, District Administrative Assistant.

On Sunday, January 29 from 2-6:00 p.m. at Beaumont, Wesley UM, the
Southeast District will kick off the year with its District Leadership Training Event. All laity are invited to explore the new camp model, mission roundtable, UM Women/Men, Social Media, Safe Sanctuary and Stewardship. All lay leaders, whether new or continuing can also attend administrative workshops on finance, SPR, Ad Council, Board, Lay Leader and Trustees.
