A Message from Bishop Huie

7/8/2016

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God. Matthew 5:9

As we watch and listen with horror as the information about the shootings in Minnesota, Louisiana and Dallas floods our media, we ask ourselves how can this happen. How is the world so full of hate and distrust? What can be done to stop what seems to be ever increasing acts of violence. What can I do? We are not powerless. We are called to be peacemakers.

We can each in our own way as opportunities are before us choose to spread the love of Christ today and everyday. We can choose to respond to each person we encounter with grace and generosity. And friends, we can pray with all our hearts that the Holy Spirit surround those who have been devastated by this violence – the communities that feel under siege, the police officers all over this country and their families who feel ever more threatened.

This Sunday I ask that each congregation in our conference pray for peace and understanding and each of us may find a way to be peacemakers right where we are.

Grace and peace,
Bishop Janice Riggle Huie
