Dr. Grace L. Butler Day
On March 4, 2014, Mayor Anise Parker and Councilman Dwight Boykins presented a proclamation to Grace L. Butler, Ph.D. recognizing and thanking her for her dedicated efforts to educate the public on colorectal cancer and the importance of getting screening. The ceremonial document declared March 4th as Dr. Grace L. Butler Day.
After being presented the proclamation, Dr. Butler spoke to Council members and the audience about the deadly disease and the mission of Hope Through Grace to reduce the colorectal cancer incidence and mortality rates in Houston. She also encouraged each council member and those in the audience who were of the age to get screened to do so.
Several council members made heartfelt remarks of gratitude about Dr. Butler’s great work and some shared their personal testimonials pertaining to colorectal cancer, which included watching their loved ones lose their battle to the disease.
At the end of her presentation, Dr. Butler presented each Council member and each person in the audience with a Blue Star, a lapel pin that symbolizes colorectal cancer awareness.
