Cardboard Box City Event to Raise Money and Awareness

Date Posted: 3/13/2014

First UMC, Pearland will provide the backdrop for an event called Cardboard Box City on April 4-5 that will raise awareness about and raise funds to serve homeless families in the community.

All proceeds from the overnight event will help Family Promise further its efforts to transition families from homelessness into housing. Participants “rent” a lot, bring a cardboard box, and spend the night outside to learn firsthand the harsh realities of a life without a solid roof overhead. Previous events have raised $8,000 to $10,000.

This year, the event will take place at two locations, one at the Family Promise of Clear Creek Day Center on the grounds of First United Methodist Church, Pearland, and one in Clear Lake, in order to better serve the Family Promise of Clear Creek area. Individuals, families, youth, civic and service groups are encouraged to attend. Sponsors are also welcomed. For more information on how to register or be a sponsor, go to www.ccfamilypromise.org or call 832-498-3957.
