Men of First UMC, Brookshire Re-enact Last Supper for Maundy Thursday

First UMC, Brookshire members are prepping to present the realistic and dramatic re-enactment of the Last Supper entitled "Lord, Is It I?" on April 2, Maundy Thursday, at 7 p.m.
This team effort combines hours of choir practice and at the sewing machine, making authentic costumes. "I'm very proud of First UMC’s dedication to sharing this with the community," notes Rev. Dottie Dumas, “and I believe everyone who comes will be glad they did."

The play features 13 men portraying the 12 disciples and Jesus on that fateful night when Jesus institutes a new ceremony that is to take the place of the Passover Meal. The drama begins at that heart-stopping moment when Jesus tells them that one of them will betray Him. Instantly the 12 disciples become men of a dozen different moods. They speak their minds to themselves, to each other and to Jesus, hardly able to believe the words He has spoken and questioning in their own hearts and minds whether they will be the one to betray the Lord. Complete with musical accompaniment by the choir and special music, the re-enactment is one in which all who watch will be moved.

Following the drama, attendees will be invited to take the place of the disciples at the table and receive Holy Communion. Adds Dottie, “All are invited to this meaningful expression of this Holy Week event.” A nursery is available during the play. First United Methodist Church is located at 7th & Cooper Streets.
