Congregational Excellence Offers Oasis Experience at October Retreat

Date Posted: 9/12/2013

Those who long for a restful time apart from the busyness of daily life are invited into the piney woods this fall to experience Spirit Journey 2013: “A Sacred Pilgrimage Into Dreams.” This three-day retreat, to be held at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center, Thursday, October 24 through Saturday, October 26, offers attendees a reflective, transformative encounter with dreams and dreamwork from a scripture-based perspective.

Speaker Connie Bovier, from Bay Harbour UMC, League City, has practiced and taught Christian-based dreamwork for 10 years. Certified by the Marin Institute of Projective Dreamwork, she has studied at the Summer Dream Conference of the Haden Institute in North Carolina, The Jung Center in Houston and other venues for the study of dreams. Dream-tending is central to her personal spiritual journey and she is dedicated to guiding others along this long-neglected path towards God’s healing and wholeness for our lives.  As a spiritual director, Connie serves on the board and faculty of the Conference’s Charis Spiritual Director Training Program. She has authored two inspirational books, More God and From the Crucible, and a collection of short stories, Restoring Hope, which celebrates the resilience of the human spirit. Her books will be available at the retreat.

Retreat Coordinator Kathy Kothmann explains that Spirit Journey began as an Annual Conference event in 2005, patterned after The Upper Room’s Benedictine-based 2-Year Academy and 5-day Academy for Spiritual Formation. “This three-day retreat enables those who cannot commit to the longer academies to experience a similar Benedictine flow of daily worship with communion, rest, study, silence and fellowship. It is a time of deep refreshment and renewal.”

Sponsored by the TAC Center for Congregational Excellence, Spirit Journey provides an oasis for men and women, laypersons and clergy, from all over the Conference and from other denominations. Retreat registration (for double occupancy and all materials and meals) is $175 before October 1 and $185 after that date. To request a copy of the retreat brochure and/or to register, contact Spirit Journey Registrar Beverly Pichon: 936-689-9999.
