Back to School Time: Just Show up and Help!
Since 1986, Houston’s Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) has offered its Back to School program to meet the basic needs of school-aged children. Students who participate in this program lack basic school supplies and clothing/uniforms needed to start the academic year on equal footing with their more advantaged peers. Back To School not only physically prepares children with academic tools, but increases overall self-esteem and mental readiness for learning.
Last year 6,204 students (Pre-kindergarten through Eighth Grade) were assisted at Back To School. The need for this service is extraordinary, and CCSC’s 2012 goal is to equip 6,500 underprivileged children! Each child will receive a complete package of grade-appropriate supplies and a voucher for a new school uniform and/or shoes.
Hundreds of volunteers will soon come together to make this program a huge success. Could you be one of them?
