Ordained and Authorized for In-between Times
Why should I commit my life to serve in a declining church? That is among the more perceptive and perplexing questions Bishop Janice Riggle Huie said she receives from many people who are pursuing ministry.
The answer: God knows that human beings need “in between people” to lead us in the in between times. These times could, of course, be times of recession, grief or uncertainty.
“Every human being goes through in between times,” she said. “It is the pastor-as-priest who speaks that word to lead us through…This, my friends, is the wonderful, blessed, dangerous role into which God has called you and the church will authorize you.” Fourteen pastors were commissioned this year. Two deacons and 19 elders were ordained.
