Texas Annual Conference 2012 Location Announced

1/25/2011

Plans are underway for the 2011 and 2012 annual conferences. Updated information regarding meals and meetings will be available in future editions of the Cross Connection.

The most current information always is available online at www.txcumc.org/TAC2011.

After making site visits in December to Bryan-College Station, the Galveston Convention Center and Galveston’s Moody Gardens, the Annual Conference Planning Team has recommended that the 2012 Annual Conference be held at the Galveston Convention

Center.

Among the considerations in site selection were the space required to accommodate the 2,500 participants; hotel rates and availability; mobility accessible spaces; amenities, including nearby restaurants, and the capacity of the location to serve such a large gathering.

The ACPT was met by gracious hosts, representatives and pastors at each location. Based on assessments and conference feedback, the ACPT selected the Galveston Convention Center for 2012.

Meeting at the Galveston Convention Center will involve an adjustment to the meeting schedule. Traditionally, the conference has secured the best hotel rates in The Woodlands and in Houston because the meeting begins on a holiday weekend. The opposite will be true in Galveston.

This presents an opportunity to respond to the requests of families, who desire to attend Annual Conference together, but cannot because their children are still in school. The dates of the 2012 conference will be June 4-7. Hotel options in Galveston will include the San Luis Resort, the Hilton and Holiday Inn, which represent three different price ranges. The hotels are all within walking distance of the convention center and shuttle service will be available.

The Annual Conference Planning Team will bring a report to the 2011 Annual Conference regarding the site selection process for Annual Conference in 2013 and beyond. The report will be explored and discussed during the Pre-Conference Delegate Meetings. The pre-conference meeting schedule will be forthcoming in February.
