Several ‘Don’t-Miss’ Events are in the Planning Stages for Conference Youth
It would be a shame to miss something called The Big Event, so here’s a save-the-date heads up. Parents and youth leaders can plan now for the November weekend, and a get a sneak peak at the 2015 Mid Winter ‘happening’ for middle and high school students next February.
Sixth grade is a significant time in adolescent development and teens at this stage in life deserve a special weekend – just for them -- within the Texas Annual Conference. The Big Event is a weekend that is set apart from the other Conference Youth retreats and is distinctly different in order to cater to the needs of sixth graders and the ministries at their local church. “Each church tends to disciple this age group differently,” notes Rev. Thera Freeman, Youth/Young Adult Ministry Director for TAC. “Therefore the agenda is open enough to be tailored to each church. Some use it as a time to get to know their students, away from parents and older youth. Other groups use it as a cornerstone to their Confirmation classes.” This year’s retreat will be held at Forest Glen beginning on November 9th. The focus will be on John Wesley's threefold ideas of grace and incorporating parts of the Credo curriculum. Adds Thera, “There will also be time for worship, small groups, outdoor recreation and plenty of time for being silly sixth graders.”
Ignite*Midwinter is a conference-wide retreat for middle school and high school youth held each February. There are three offerings of the same theme and curriculum: Lakeview from Feb 20-22; Forest Glen1 from Feb 20-22 (full camp); and Forest Glen2 from Feb 27-March 1, which is a combined smaller camp.
This year's Ignite*Midwinter's theme is on Redemption and will focus on the Lord's Prayer. Make note of these dates and plan accordingly. Watch for more information to come!
