Tax Season Resources for Churches
At a time when church members are filing their tax returns, it may be a good idea for church leaders to make sure they are aware of Internal Revenue Service rules that apply to churches, including requirements for church contributors to receive charitable-donation deductions. For help with these and other questions, the Lewis Center for Church Leadership at Wesley Theological Seminary suggests consulting the free IRS publication, “Tax Guide for Church and Religious Organizations.”

Each year, the General Council on Finance and Administration posts a tax packet to their website that contains general information on tax issues of interest to United Methodist clergy, local churches, annual conferences, and others.
