Lon Morris College Employees on Furlough

On Wednesday, May 23, employees at Lon Morris College received notice of an immediate furlough effective yesterday. View the notice at: www.txcumc.org/lmcletter

Bishop Janice Riggle Huie expressed deep concern for these employees and their families who were not only furloughed without pay but also informed that health care benefits would be cancelled in the near term due to non-payment of premiums.

In a recent letter sent to all Texas Conference churches from the Bishop, the Cabinet, and several concerned clergy, an appeal was made for donations to provide funds to meet at least one payroll of approximately $250,000. Bishop Huie has been guaranteed by Dawn Ragan, Chief Restructuring Officer of Bridgepoint Consulting that,” the funds you earmark for a specific purpose will be used for that purpose, so the contributions will be used to pay against the prior payrolls. We will apply the funds in a formulaic way so that if the contributions for instance equate to 50% of one payroll, then everyone would get 50% of what they were owed, adjusting for taxes. Those funds would absolutely not go for any other general purpose.”

Bridgepoint Consulting Firm of Irving, Texas was engaged by the Lon Morris board to advise the board in steps needed to improve the financial status of the college. They began their work on May 14, 2012.

Bishop Huie restates her appeal, “Given the news of furloughs, the need for financial assistance is even greater and I pray that we can quickly provide funds to help those in need in the Lon Morris community.”

Please send funds to The Texas Annual Conference, 5215 Main Street, Houston Texas 77002 and mark for Lon Morris Payroll.
