Central South District to Offer 18 Training Sessions

Date Posted: 12/12/2011

In the midst of a national decline in church attendance, leaders are craving inspiration and innovation to apply to their ministries.

Central South’s Lay Leadership Training Keynote Speaker Olu Brown will share from his heart on Sunday, January 29 how God is blessing his church as one of the fastest growing new church starts in the United States. As the founding pastor of Impact Church 1.0 in Atlanta, Georgia, Brown’s spirit-filled message will inspire and encourage laity and clergy to see what a strong and vital congregation can do.

“When believers take seriously God’s call to ministry, our churches unleash a holy power that can’t help but transform the world for Jesus,” says Rev. Lawrence Young, Central South District Superintendent. “That is why it is essential that our pastors strongly encourage every lay person in leadership to participate in the 2012 Leadership event,” Young said.

The 2012 Local Church Leadership Event, “Every Believer in Ministry,” is Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2- 6:30 p.m. at Houston’s West Park campus of First Methodist. Spanish interpretation is available for the opening worship service and two courses will also be available in Spanish. The training is designed to help equip every pastor and laity in leadership in congregations to effectively do the work that God has called them to do. Choose from 18 training sessions on topics including: Communication, Disciple Making, Fund Raising, Taxes, Missions, United Methodism, Lay Leadership, and Worship. Additionally, Youth Explosion 2012 will inspire participating students in attendance.

“Every church that wants to grow and be effective should have their leaders at this event,” Young said. “Both pastors and laity will leave with tools in their hands and dreams and visions in their heads and hearts.” Online registration is preferred and available at www.heartofhouston.org, and childcare is being provided.
