Blessing of the Garden

Date Posted: 10/22/2015

On November 1st, All Saint's Day, Rev. Mike Cline will conduct a "Blessing of the Garden" at 9:45 a.m. in the courtyard of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church. The church has just completed a lovely landscaped Memorial Garden which is a place of beauty and dignity where friends and family can meditate.

Along the sandstone path is a Memorial Wall and two columbarium. A columbarium is a permanent structure made up of spaces (niches) where urns containing the ashes (cremains) may be placed. The word 'columbarium' is derived from the Latin term columba meaning "dwelling place of a dove." The dove has long symbolized in Christian tradition the embodiment of the Holy Spirit. The columbaria provide an opportunity to choose the shadow of the church as a final resting place.

The Memorial Wall is in remembrance of those interred elsewhere. Names on the Memorial Wall will remind us of those who have touched us, inspired us, loved us and according to the Bible "still surround us as a body of saints." A committee of six Tennison members, with approval from the Trustees and guidance from Pastor Cline, began work on this project in 2013. Columbarium Concepts of Dallas with Great Gardens of McKinney were used in planning and construction.

Tennison is located at 313 Church St on the corner of East Third in Mount Pleasant. For more information call the church office at (903)572-5341.
