Nacogdoches Serves as the Backdrop for East District Youth Rally
Two hundred teens +worship + pizza = a district youth rally, deluxe!
From first steps to first dates, there is something special about a new experience. The same goes for the first district youth rally in the East District a few weeks ago. “With almost 200 in attendance, the evening was filled with laughter that came from making new friends, and meeting up with old friends from district camp,” says Cody J. Bauman, East District Youth Coordinator who serves as Youth Director for FUMC Jasper.
Churches represented in addition to FUMC Jasper, were: FUMC Livingston, FUMC Lufkin, FUMC Nacogdoches, FUMC Chandler, FUMC Center and FUMC Stockman. District Superintendent Chuck Huffman and new Conference Youth Coordinator Eddie Erwin made an appearance to cheer on the teens and leaders. “Our youth appreciate them for taking time to come say hello,” adds Cody, “and we also appreciate being hosted by FUMC Nacogdoches, and thank Center FUMC for the pizza dinner.”
The event included a Christian Illusionist, who is also a certified lay servant in the UMC, a high-energy time of games, led by Kate Foulkrod of Nacogdoches and a time of worship led by Sean Little, youth pastor, Chandler FUMC. “We wrapped up the evening by spending a few minutes discussing the future of our district,” adds Cody. “After discussing the planning of another rally before the end of the year, we committed to both the students and the district leadership to have four district youth rally events in 2016. We also discussed having a district youth council where we can allow students to help plan and be in leadership.”
